Case Study

From February 2009 Martin Howe Associates have worked on a project with Assura Derwentside LLP to improve the access to Primary care for people with learning disabilities across County Durham and Darlington.

The project had a number of elements:

  • Gaining data from each practice via an audit document to plan the training.
  • Designing the training materials including the presentation and resource packs.
  • Delivering the training to 78 practices to a minimum of 3 members of the team.
  • Collating course and 3 month evaluations to plan the next steps of support to practices.
  • Incorporating local and national good practice into the project.
  • The training programme has been well received with very positive evaluations and health checks have begun for people with learning disabilities. The second part of the project is to build upon the initial training by offering further training, support and advice and continually evaluate the impact on people with learning disabilities, their carers and services.

Client Testimonials

Testimonial

"Martin commenced work with NHS Blackburn with Darwen Provider Services Unit in early 2008 on the recommendation of a colleague.

Martin's role as an external consultant to the organisation was to provide project support on the establishment and development of a newly commissioned primary care mental health service.

Over the next 18 months, Martin worked on several projects, most notably the establishment of a partnership board, stakeholder mapping and communications activity, development of service pathways and procedures, and patient and public involvement.

Throughout the lifespan of each and all of these projects, Martin demonstrated a high level of commitment, attention to detail and quality and subsequently, many of his ideas and developments have been implemented and helped deliver successful outcomes of the service to a range of stakeholders including commissioners, partners and service users and carers.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Martin to colleagues within and outside of my organisation when a high standard of project management is required."
